On The Road

Occasional ramblings from a rambling journalist

From the Guardian – Standup comic Milton Jones asks whether Christianity is too weird. Its chief ‘representatives’ live in huge palaces and wear big pointy hats. And apart from being involved at the beginning of science, systems of government, philosophy, art, schools, hospitals, the emancipation of women, the abolition of slavery, social welfare, helping form the basis of the moral code most people live by, and introducing popular notions of justice, mercy, decency and compassion – what has Christianity ever really done for the world?

TACKLINGS ISSUES OF HEALTH, POVERY, INJUSTICE AND CONFLICT

Media can be a powerful force for change in society.  When used properly and put in the hands of communities, converging media technologies can enable dialogue, learning, advocacy and the exchange of information and ideas, contributing to real, lasting, social change.

For many years Health Communication Resources has been working among poor, marginalised and vulnerable communities in some really tough areas, where the team’s innovative approaches have seen significant impact in communities.  In fact they’ve done such a good job, we decided to register HCR as a charity in the UK  ( Registration No: 1152631 ).

  • Virus wipes out 2012

The first 9 months of 2012 were going quite well… until October, then the last 3 months were horrible….  Then to add insult to injury, on 24th December, a hacker decided to insert a virus into this site. wiping out all entries for 2012!  A good reminder that life is transitory and temporary and not to get too upset about the stupidity of some people.

    A toast to 2013!

To the hacker – please do something useful with your life!

  • Communication is Aid

A very cool video from “INFOASAID” ( a partnership initiative of Internews and the BBC World Service Trust) which shows how important information is for vulnerable communities, especially those suffering from natural and man-made disasters.
